For its 11th edition in 2026, Regatta.lu continues with the competition format featuring two separate classes for university students and secondary school students. University students (University class) will sail exclusively on race-cruiser type yachts, while secondary school students (High School class) will sail on cruising yachts, allowing crews to be introduced to the pleasures of sailing.

Skippers and co-skippers may also be students, and the organisers particularly encourage any young sailor with the required qualifications and experience to take the lead of their crew by becoming skipper or co-skipper. Interested students will find the relevant information below. If they have not yet participated in these roles at Regatta.lu, they are invited to express their interest by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. The two-class racing format will provide four full days of racing, with races counting towards the final overall ranking of the competition. This format will enhance the quality of the event and enable everyone—skippers, co-skippers and crew members alike—to further develop their sailing skills. Videoclip Youtube.

The educational added value of a week of sailing is enormous, and young people benefit on many levels from the values and experiences conveyed through sailing: discovering offshore navigation, learning sailing techniques, exploring the natural marine environment, living together as a group on board, recognising the power of natural elements and one’s own limits, making new friends, team building, respect, fair play, and more. Thematic activities are planned, and we will continue our inclusion project in cooperation with the Centre for Intellectual Development.

As a reminder, Regatta.lu is a nautical event organised by the Groupe Luxembourgeois de Croisière et de Régate (GLCR), in close cooperation with the Luxembourg Sailing Federation (FLV), the National Youth Service (SNJ) and the Yacht Club of Quiberon (France).

The 11th edition will take place from Sunday, 6 September to Saturday, 12 September 2026. We will depart from Port-Haliguen (Quiberon), with one or two stopovers at the Île d’Houat, subject to weather conditions.

While a strong emphasis is placed on sailing initiation for secondary school students, team building and competitive spirit are the main focus for university students. All of this is, of course, combined with the pleasure of sailing and the warm, friendly atmosphere that naturally results. The website www.regatta.lu provides further information about Regatta.lu. Experienced skippers, students and pupils form a very special mix, with remarkable diversity in which everyone feels at ease.

As the responsibility of the GLCR is engaged, with the support of national bodies such as the SNJ, a certification procedure has been established for every skipper supervising a crew. The skippers appointed by the GLCR for pupil crews comply with this procedure. Any crew wishing to appoint its own skipper must liaise with the organiser to ensure compliance with this procedure and the associated liability provisions.

The GLCR therefore insists that:

  1. each skipper holds a valid sailing licence and has sufficient experience to supervise a novice crew during a regatta (e.g. windward–leeward courses).

  2. each skipper and co-skipper is registered as an ordinary GLCR member (annual fee €25) or as a student member (annual fee €0), following the registration procedure on the club’s website, and participates in the information meetings organised beforehand.

  3. each skipper holds a sport sailing licence issued by the FLV. The issuance of such a licence includes a visit to a sports medical centre.

An information meeting will be held in July 2026 (venue and exact date to be confirmed), followed by a meeting specifically for skippers. Participation by skippers is strongly recommended.

Registrations for pupils will be made individually or by crew on the website www.regatta.lu. Skippers and co-skippers are requested to register on our website by clicking here (please remember to log in first). The participation fee for the co-skipper is €400. The skipper no longer pays a participation fee, but is required to take out a deductible buy-back insurance policywith an insurer such as Pantaenius. A member of the organising committee will assist all skippers with this requirement.
